Barbarroxa Wells Walking Trail
It passes close to 3 humid intra-dune depressions, along the base of the dune, crosses the frontal dune and passes along the sand of the adjacent beach. Observe the dune vegetation, geomorphological aspects and landscape unique to the high altitude of the dune in this area. On the beach, keep an eye out for marine birdlife and some dolphins swimming along the coast.
The trail first runs along the banks of the Poços do Barbarroxa - humid interdunal depressions of fresh water located at the base of the frontal dune that reaches a high altitude here (maximum height of 47 m). Highlights include the vegetation associated with these wetlands, especially the marsh heather (Erica ciliaris), the gorse (Ulex minor) and the marsh fern (Thelypteris palustris) and also the dune scrubland at the start of the trail with Armeria rouyana.
The route also includes crossing the dune and ends with a walk along the extensive sandy beach, where it is possible to observe vegetation characteristic of the embryonic dune and sea birds.
